In order to steer a horse it is vital that we have one major ingredient, forward movement! Without movement you can not steer, and you can not teach a horse to steer, you will find that no movement will cause your horse to become very heavy footed when trying to steer. I always tell beginner riders this simple analogy “when you drive a car, in order to steer what must you do?” turn the steering wheel is the usual response. “Is that all?” yes they reply, “does the car then turn?” well of course! “but don’t the wheels need to be turning in order for the car to turn?” well that goes without saying ” That is exactly my point! But why do so many people try to steer around without forward movement? This video is a simple steering method great for beginner and novice riders. Nothing to scientific, I hope you enjoy!
